Autumn/Winter 2014 Hair Trends

It’s back to basics for Autumn/Winter 2014.

Ponytails are on-trend, but keep these tips in mind when creating yours: Use a razor sharp parting, either a center part or or an extreme side part (generally at the natural recession or even deeper).  Use a fine tooth comb to help you achieve a neat and smooth look.  Options for the ponytail itself can vary from simple and sleek to fun and messy, but keep the pony low on the head; the center back of the head is the highest the pony should be.  For a more polished look, take a few strands of hair from the pony and wrap it around the elastic band, then use a hair pin to secure the end underneath the ponytail.

Ballerina buns!  The Undone Bun is a hot trend right now.  To achieve this look: Spritz brush (paddle brush is best) with a light hairspray and slick back into a low ponytail.  Then tease the pony with your fingers to get a rougher texture before twisting into a bun.

Devon, Volume Hair Studio owner, Senior Stylist
Devon has been a professional stylist for 16 years. She was part of the ‘House Productions’ team for 12 years prior to purchasing the business, with her husband Greg, in December 2011. Devon specializes in precision cutting techniques and is certified in Pure Hair Extensions and HotHead Extensions. Since purchasing the salon, newly named Volume Hair Studio, Devon has tirelessly worked to create a comfortable and serene environment where clients can relax while receiving the highest quality of service that Rittenhouse has to offer.

Rachael, Color Specialist
Rachael has been part of the Volume Team (formerly House Productions) for over 11 years. She is our Senior Color Specialist, as well as the Salon Manager. Rachael has an innate ability to see color in a way that surpasses the ‘average colorist’; having such a comprehensive understanding of color chemistry affords her the skill to create everything from sun-kissed natural highlights to the most extreme theatrical color.
“Color has the ability to not just enhance a person’s look, but also transform the way they feel. I always strive to insure my clientele leave the salon feeling and looking their absolute best!”
Rachael has expanded her ability to transform a client’s look through extension work; she is Pure Extension and HotHeads Extensions Certified.

Lauren, Senior Stylist, Colorist
Lauren has been a professional stylist at Volume Hair Studio (formerly House Productions) for over 11 years; specializing in precision cutting techniques, as well as creative color techniques. She has perfected these techniques and skills, cementing her place in the hair industry; a place she was certainly destined to be.
“I can recall, at age 4, helping my Mom color her hair. I’ve always had a love for the craft and even started a ‘Backyard Beauty Shop’ during my high school years; cutting all my friend’s hair.”
Lauren sees hair an an accessory, one that should compliment and, when necessary, evolve to match an individuals lifestyle and personality.
She continues to expand her knowledge through advanced cutting technique classes (Toni & Guy London Academy); always wanting to have something current and unique to offer her clients. Lauren is HotHead Extensions certified.

Anthony, Senior Stylist
Born and raised in New York, Anthony was immersed in diverse cultures, cutting edge fashion, and the fine arts from an early age; sparking his interest in artistic expression. While the arts proved to be a passion, they were to remain a hobby until 2003 when Anthony decided to leave his work with nonprofit organizations and enrolled at the Carsten Institute, Union Square, NYC. In 2006 Anthony relocated to Philadelphia and joined the Volume Team (formerly House Productions Hair Studio). There he embarked on an intensive training in Precision Cutting Techniques, which proved successful when he was featured in Philadelphia Style Magazine.

Anthony continues to evolve as a stylist through learning new techniques from partaking in advanced training classes.

Stephanie, Senior Stylist
Stephanie has been a professional stylist for 9 years, specializing in precision cutting techniques. Her training began at the Jean Madeline Aveda Institute of Cosmetology,
“As early as age 11 I remember cutting and coloring my older sister’s hair, but never thinking much of it until years later when I decided to tour Jean Madeline and realized that a career in cosmetology was for me!”
Since joining the Volume Team in 2006, under its previous ownership ‘House Productions’, Stephanie continues to challenge herself through education; partaking in advanced cutting/styling technique classes. Stephanie’s keen attention to detail is what separates her from ‘the rest’. Stephanie is HotHead Extensions certified.

Natasia, Stylist, Colorist, Make-Up Artist
Natasia has 8 years professional experience; joining the Volume Team in 2012. She is Volume Hair Studio’s triple threat: Colorist, Stylist, Make-Up Artist!
Natasia attended the Jean Madeline Aveda Institute, graduating with a strong understanding of color and cutting techniques. Fueled by a desire to surpass the ‘average’ colorist/stylist, Natasia partakes in advanced technique classes at Redken (Sam Villa, Chris Baran) and Pureology. Natasia is HotHead Extensions cerified.
“I love to challenge myself, and I do this by always educating myself on the latest trends and cutting/color/styling/make-up techniques.”

Kelsey, Colorist
Kelsey, who graduated from the Jean Madeline School of Cosmetology, joined the Volume Team in 2011.
“I had always had an interest in coloring and styling hair and discovered, at an early age, I had a natural talent when I began coloring my sister’s hair, as well as many of my friends. It was not until I visited the Jean Madeline campus that I realized I could have a future doing what I love!”
Kelsey partook in Volume’s extensive and progressive advanced color application and technique training program; under the instruction of our color specialist Rachael. With the development of her own style and strive for perfection, it is easy to see that Kelsey is an exceptional and integral player in a new generation of colorists. She continues to further her education by attending advanced color technique classes, such as Redken, on a regular basis; proving her intent to always staying ahead of the trends and honing her craft as a colorist. Kelsey is HotHead Extensions Certified.

Rachael Martin, Stylist, Colorist, Make-Up Artist
Rachael Martin is the newest addition to the Volume Team, coming to us with over 8 years of haircutting, hair styling, creative hair coloring, traditional and theatrical make-up experience; her work has been featured in Giuseppina Magazine, DEB catalogue, and DEB online. Rachael is completely immersed in her craft and continues to educate herself on the latest trends and techniques by partaking in advanced technique and color classes, i.e. Wella and L’oreal. Rachael is certified in HotHead Extensions.

Katie, Stylist, Colorist
Katie is a stylist, colorist, and make-up artist who joined the volume team in 2013 with 9 years of experience. Katie is an internationally trained stylist; studying in Miami, London, and New York with Vidal Sassoon Academy. Her true passion starts in the chair, building a relationship with each cient and personalizing every cut and color to exceed expectations. Aside from being professional and incredibly easy to work with, Katie is able to make you feel at ease and instantly trusting while taking your ideas and turning them into a reality.
